Camp is over. Hallelujah!

Friday was tough. First, I taught low level 3rd and 4th graders (see the top photo) for two hours. The class would have been fantastic if it wasn’t for the twin boys. Their level was so low and their attitudes were really bad. I literally had to keep holding one of them back because he kept getting out of his chair every two minutes to beat up the boy in the top right of the photo. He even picked up a chair at one point.

Next, I had my regular 5th & 6th grade class for two hours. That age is a bit harder because the girls and boys don’t want to have anything to do with one another and the girls get really quiet. Also, I had one of the biggest 6th grade trouble makers my class. He’s not in the picture because he left early.

Overall, camp went pretty well. And I’m sooooo glad it’s over.

Camp is almost over! I’m so excited. Today was my last day to teach my low level 5th and 6th grade class.

I really enjoyed this class. They were always really enthusiastic and excited about class.

Camp is a difficult time and I was so proud of myself because I didn’t let my blog get too far behind last week. Unfortunately, as I went back through to date my posts, I noticed that I was one short. I didn’t take many photos last week because I was either working on camp or teaching.

Since I don’t have any current photos to post, I am posting one that I took almost exactly a year ago. It’s one of my favorite places in Busan and it’s one of my favorite pictures that I’ve taken since being in Korea.

One of my very favorite people in the world is coming to Korea in less than a month. I absolutely cannot wait. I think about it every day.

I ordered a few things online to her house and she sent me this picture of them in her suitcase.

There is half a block in my neighborhood that’s lined with shops like these. I never thought anything of them until I walked by them at night for the first time.

The glass is fogged except for one line (at eye level if you’re sitting on a stool). Usually there’s a woman sitting there peering through the glass. The room is illuminated red. I translated the sign using my phone. It means “Firework.”

Korea is obsessed with poo (You may remember my previous post about poop bread in Seoul.) I found these socks in a Daiso (like a dollar store). You can guy them in grey or black.

This is Haeundae Beach. It’s Busan’s most popular beach. In the summer, the entire beach is lined with umbrellas that you can rent.

Dave and I had lunch nearby and took a walk along the beach afterwards. It was packed!

Unfortunately, friends come and go in Korea. It’s that time again. We had a going away party on Friday night. We went to dinner, took pictures in photo booths and then ended the night at a traditional tea house.

Korea is going to be a lot less awesome without Shanna, Xong and Yangyee.

I was about to set out for a walk today when I spotted something outside Dave’s window. It looked like a park with traditional Korean buildings (you can see it in the bottom center of the photo on the left).

I took a very long walk and towards the end, I ended up there. It was pretty, but also seemed to be a hangout for older men. There was even a shirtless older man laying down behind the building in the bottom right photo.

I spent the better part of my day wandering around Dave’s neighborhood. He lives in the “old downtown” area of Ulsan so there are lots of shops, restaurants, bars and markets. I mentally bookmarked a lot of places for later explorations.

One of my favorite finds was this shop called Funny Love. They specialize in matching outfits for couples and families. Young couples all across Korea wear matching clothes and I always enjoy spotting “same sames.” I’m sure there are others, but this is the first store I’ve seen that only sells matching clothes.
